How to get to every area in Mina the Hollower

To get to every area in Mina the Hollower, you must defeat dozens of enemies and find almost as many hidden paths and obscure mechanisms. Doing so by yourself may take many hours, especially when searching for the roads to Septemburg and Bone Beach, so you might like a few pointers.

From Coltrane Peak to the Astral Orrery, here’s how to find every area in Mina the Hollower.

Tips on how to find each region in Mina the Hollower

Your main task in Mina the Hollower is to find all six spark generators, which are located in faraway regions on the Tenebrous Isle’s outer edge. To get to those regions, you must pass through many smaller regions. In this guide, we’ll show you how to reach every “end goal” region in Mina the Hollower and how to pass through the smaller regions on the way.

If you prefer to find the regions yourself, here are a few tips:

  • Unlock the map. Although it’s a general overview of the regions rather than a detailed map with routes, obtaining the map will give you a good idea of where you are and in which direction you should move.
  • Use the fountain. The fountain in Ossex’s City Center is adorned with six lightbulbs, representing the spark generators. When a spark generator is restored, the light bulb turns on. Explore in the general direction of a deactivated light bulb to find its spark generator.
  • Look for road signs. Small wooden signs, typically found near borders and towns, can point you in the right direction.
  • Speak with locals. NPCs may give you hints about secret locations and passageways.
  • Starting from Ossex, go to the Eastern Heath first. You aren’t bound to a specific order of progression, but the path to the Queensbury Crypt is a bit easier compared to the rest.

How to get to Ossex in Mina the Hollower

Following the Kraken attack at the start of the game, you must find your way to Ossex, the city at the heart of the island. Unlike the latter stages of the game, the road to Ossex is linear, so there’s no risk of losing your way. Starting from Loner’s Landing: Blighted Docks, you will move to the Boardwalk area, and from there to the fiery Southern Outskirts: Commons. Defeat the Hulk Trooper boss, and you will enter Ossex through the southern gate.

If you’d like to revisit Loner’s Landing and the Southern Outskirts, simply follow the same road back, though you can also visit new parts of these regions (including the shipwreck) by stealing Pinky’s ladder in the Backwaters: Shanty Swamp.

How to get to the Astral Orrery in Mina the Hollower

Although the Astral Orrery is the last region you’ll discover in Mina the Hollower, it’s unlocked through mirrors spread across Tenebrous Isle. Walk through the mirror and hit the gold mechanism inside to unlock the area. You don’t have to find every mirror, but it’s still a good idea to find them as you explore each area, as they can be used to quickly move around the map. Make sure to check out our guide on how to find every mirror.

Once you’ve found every mirror, make sure to go through the passageway in the center of Mirror’s End to get to the Astral Orrery.

How to get to the Queensbury Crypt in Mina the Hollower

Leave Ossex (High Street) to the east, entering Eastern Heath: Grassland. As the bridge is blocked by spikes, go south and then east at the first opportunity. Hop onto the moving platform and break the bushes on the east to head into the next room.

Follow the path north until it splits in two, where you’ll continue north to the room with the road sign and the gate leading into the Mourner’s Mile: Knight’s Rest. Go east into Mourner’s Mile.

Exit this room to the northeast, then make your way to the northwest exit. Follow the path to the right until you find the small graveyard with a lady in a purple dress. Break the boulder on the northeast grave, drop down, exit directly to the south, and push the pressure plate to lower the spikes in the south. Exit the Spike Vault and follow the newly opened path to the east to enter the Queensbury Crypt region.

How to get to Nox’s Bayou in Mina the Hollower

Exit Ossex to the south, into Southern Outskirts: Commons. In the first area below the Ossex gate, turn left at the first opportunity (the path near the wooden sign). Go left as far as you can, then turn north into the Western Wilds: Occupied Bridge region. When you see the small red enemies and lava, jump across the lava and go west as far as you can. If your path is impeded by red rocks, burrow a path from the lava to the rocks. The lava will destroy them once it gets into contact with them.

Proceed south into the Backwaters: Shanty Swamp. Speak with Buffo, the large green frog, to obtain a side mission. You can enter the large lake with the rotating platforms and the bayou band (who will send you on a search for a lil’ frog) by burrowing across the water; jump, burrow briefly, and jump again.

Move along with the floating platforms (clockwise) to reach the exit in the southwest, where you will enter Nox’s Bayou: Boat Bog. You can burrow through the double fence as demonstrated in the picture below.

How to get to Septemburg in Mina the Hollower

Starting from Ossex, exit the city to the south and turn left at the first opportunity, leading through the Southern Outskirts: Commons and into the Western Wilds: Occupied Bridge region (same as the road to Nox’s Bayou). When you reach the area with the lava and skittering red creatures, head west until you find a staircase blocked by red rocks to the north.

To remove the red rocks, start burrowing next to a lava tile and form a path to one of the red rocks to detonate it. You can’t burrow the full distance at once; jump up and burrow again on an empty tile adjacent to the lava stream to continue its path.

Pass through the Molten Foundry in the northeast to reach the Occupied Bridge. Cross the bridge and continue northwest to enter Kindlewood: Overgrowth. Continue northwest to find a grassy area with many tunnels. Take the one east of the central square and go south to find the exit.

To pass through the residence, grab the torch on the left and throw it into the bushes on the right.

To leave the vertical chamber north of the residence, go to the northwest corner, take the path to the south, and exit in the southwest. Go north from here until you see another residence. Enter it to start a boss battle against the Madd House.

After the battle, go west to enter Kindlewood: Farm Crossing. Exit the town in the southwest to enter Septemburg: Withered Farms.

How to get to Bone Beach in Mina the Hollower

To reach Bone Beach in Mina the Hollower, it’s useful to equip items that enhance your jumping ability, such as the Pit Preserver, which you can purchase from the Kindly Hag in Nox’s Bayou. You also need at least three plasma vials.

Exit Ossex to the south, entering the Southern Outskirts. In the first area below the guards, go right at the first opportunity and pass through the Cave Network in the northeast. Jump on the flowers to travel around the room in a counter-clockwise fashion until you reach the exit in the northeast.

Open the shortcut to the northeast, then continue southwest. Burrow underneath the jumping pad flower to move it (it’ll shoot a few paces ahead after you quit burrowing), cross the gap to the west, then jump onto the ledge in the south. Lower the rope to create a shortcut, then move east.

In the northeast, behind the large enemy, enter a second Cave Network. Go directly south to find the Mining Passage. You must sacrifice two plasma vials to continue.

See the yellow sparkles against the dark backdrop of the pit? They mark hidden tiles; jump from sparkle to sparkle to reach the pressure plate, then continue east.

When you reach Sandfalls: Sifted Sands, proceed to the large square in the south and use the bombs in the surrounding areas to unblock the doorway in the middle. Throw the bombs against carts filled with red TNT to remove the full string. You can start with this one in the northwest:

Likewise, use the bomb in the southeast to hit the TNT carts to the north and west, then burrow to the area in the southwest and use the bomb there to detonate the two TNT carts to the north.

Once you’ve hit every TNT cart with a bomb, sacrifice three plasma vials to pass through the doorway in the center (return to the Underlab if you don’t have enough vials on hand). In the Miner’s Den, defeat Major Miner.

Exit to the south, and you’ll find yourself in Bone Beach.

How to get to Coltrane Peak in Mina the Hollower

Mina the Hollower‘s Coltrane Peak region can only be reached by train. Unfortunately, the trains have stopped operating. If you donate a total of 10,000 bones, the trains will resume service, and you can travel to any station you’ve previously uncovered, plus Coltrane Peak. There’s a train station in Ossex, Backwater (near Nox’s Bayou), Kindlewood (near Septemburg), and Bone Beach, each equipped with a donation box — you can donate any amount to any station, as long as the total eventually reaches 10,000.
