The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is widely considered to be one of the best RPGs of all time, and while GTA 6 might be the game on everyone’s lips right now, The Witcher 4 will command a lot of attention when we eventually learn more. With Ciri stepping into the limelight, it has the potential to be a serious game of the year contender. (As long as it makes your choices matter, of course).
In the years since The Witcher 3’s release, many developers who worked on the game have left CD Projekt Red. For example, The Blood of Dawnwalker is one of the most anticipated RPGs this year; developer Rebel Wolves is made up of several senior staff who worked on Geralt’s final adventure.
That isn’t the only game that fits the bill, though, so here are the details on every game in the works from ex-Witcher 3 developers, including The Blood of Dawnwalker, The Witcher 4, and more.
The Witcher 4
Starting with the obvious, The Witcher 4 has ex-Witcher 3 developers working on it, because it’s coming from the same studio. Adam Badowski and Michał Nowakowski are the two studio leads. Tomasz Marchewka was a writer on The Witcher 3 and is now the narrative director on its sequel. Pawel Sasko was a quest designer on The Witcher 3, and was responsible for some of the most iconic quests, including “The Bloody Baron.” Sebastian Kalemba was an animator on the third game, now he’s a game director. These are just a few of the senior members of the team who have stuck around.
We know The Witcher 4 will feature Ciri as the main protagonist, and it will be another open-world RPG set in the Continent. She’ll travel to the Kovir region, an area only mentioned in the books so far, and we’ll likely get to use more of her magical abilities, as opposed to Geralt’s physical prowess. While we’re yet to get official gameplay, we saw the game running during a tech demo at the State of Unreal 2025 conference. We’re expecting The Witcher 4’s release date to come in either 2027 or 2028.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past
While it isn’t a standalone game, I’d be remiss not to mention Songs of the Past, the upcoming final expansion for The Witcher 3. Co-developed by CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory (a Polish studio that released The Thaumaturge in 2024), Songs of the Past will be released in 2027, before The Witcher 4.
While we don’t know much about its story or world, we know we’ll be stepping back into the shoes of Geralt of Rivia, and the expansion will be approximately the same size as Blood and Wine. It will also act as a sort of prologue for the sequel, according to Nowakowski.

Ambitious timeline flies in the face of the current reality of AAA game development
Cyberpunk 2
Cyberpunk 2 is also in development at CD Projekt Red. Pawel Sasko, while helping out with The Witcher 4, is primarily working as the associate game director on Cyberpunk 2. Sarah Grümmer, a quest designer on The Witcher 3, is the lead quest designer on Cyberpunk 2. Andrzej Stopa, someone who worked on cinematics and cutscenes on The Witcher 3, is now the Cyberpunk 2 cinematic director. Kacper Niepokólczycki has retained his role as the environment art director.
We don’t know much about Cyberpunk 2 because it’s early in development, having only entered pre-production in May 2025. Prior to then, its codename was Project Orion. However, one thing we do know is that it will feature an entirely new city that Mike Pondsmith, the author of the original Cyberpunk tabletop RPG, described as “like Chicago gone wrong” when speaking to IGN last May. Cyberpunk 2 likely won’t be released until 2030 at the earliest.
Project Hadar
Project Hadar is the name of the third game in development at CD Projekt Red, but we know very little about the project. It’s safe to assume some Witcher 3 devs are working on it, but according to a GameSpot report, there were only 26 people in total working on Hadar in February of this year, compared to The Witcher 4’s 499 and Cyberpunk 2’s 149.
What actually is Project Hadar? It’s currently still in pre-production, which means specific details are scarce. We know it’s a completely original IP, as opposed to the pre-existing worlds of The Witcher and Cyberpunk. According to a job listing, it’s described as an “emotional, open-world experience,” which is the type of game CD Projekt Red excels in.
Project Sirius
For the final game being developed at CD Projekt Red, we have Project Sirius. Much like Hadar, we can’t say for certain that anyone who worked on The Witcher 3 is on this game. That said, it’s fairly likely, because Sirius is a multiplayer spin-off set in The Witcher universe. The Molasses Flood, an ex-indie studio acquired by CDPR, is the team working on it, previously of The Flame in the Flood and Drake Hollow fame.
While development on Project Sirius began in 2022, the entire project was scrapped and rebooted a year later. We also know that Kwan Perng, one of the narrative leads on both Destiny 2: The Final Shape and Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons has been brought on as the lead writer.
The Witcher Remake
It’s been a little while since we’ve heard any news about The Witcher Remake, but we know development is well underway at Fool’s Theory. According to the official announcement back in 2022, CD Projekt Red is “providing full creative supervision.”
Prior to its reveal, The Witcher Remake was known internally as Canis Majoris, and is being “rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.” There’s still no confirmed release date for this remake of the original game, but IGN reported back in 2022 that it will be fully open-world.

The Witcher developers are still exploring the line between man and monster
The Blood of Dawnwalker
Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, game director on The Witcher 3 and secondary director on Cyberpunk 2077, left CD Projekt Red in 2021. He’s now the co-founder, CEO, and game director at Rebel Wolves, the studio behind The Blood of Dawnwalker, an upcoming RPG that bears a lot in common with Geralt’s most recent outings. Jakub Szamalek, senior writer on The Witcher 3, is also at Rebel Wolves, as is Bartłomiej Gaweł, art director on both games.
What is The Blood of Dawnwalker? The protagonist is Coen, a human during the day, and a vampire at night, otherwise known as a dawnwalker. Set in 14th-century Europe during the Black Death, there are plenty of choices to make, including whether to seek revenge on those who have wronged him or prioritize saving his family. The Blood of Dawnwalker will be released for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X on Sept. 2, 2026.
Untitled Blank Game Studios project
Mateusz Kanik left CD Projekt Red in 2022 after working as co-director on The Witcher 3. The following year, he co-founded Blank Game Studios in Warsaw, Poland. Alongside him are Jędrzej Mróz and Marcin Jefimow, who were both executive producers on The Witcher 3.
Because the Blank project is very early in development, we know very little about it, other than the fact it’s a “character-driven game set in an apocalypse,” according to a May 2023 report from Game Informer. The studio’s LinkedIn page states they’re a small team of “nearly 20 developers,” and it sounds like the game is considerably smaller in scope than The Witcher 3.
Untitled Dark Passenger project
Finally, we have the game in the works at Dark Passenger. This studio was co-founded by Jakub Ben, Marcin Michalski, and Pawel Kuleta, who worked on the cinematic, art, and environment teams on The Witcher 3.
Their untitled game was announced back in 2022, and is a multiplayer stealth-action game set in feudal Japan. The official website details more about the game, including weapons, movement mechanics, customization, and more. There have been no official updates on the game for a couple of years, but since the studio is hiring for a number of roles on its careers page, here’s hoping we hear some more about it soon.
